Meet Taurus, a vibrant 14-year-old from the beautiful Bahamas. Currently a Grade 9 student at Agape Christian, Taurus has a lot to share about his interests, family, and aspirations.

Taurus loves diving into the world of physical education and health at school. He’s fascinated by learning about the human body, diseases, and overall well-being. However, like many, he admits to having a dislike for math. Beyond the classroom, Taurus is a water enthusiast living near the ocean. After school, you can find him taking refreshing swims, engaging in various sports such as baseball and basketball, and even trying his hand at track.

Growing up in a bustling household, Taurus finds himself in the middle of a diverse range of siblings from both his mom’s and dad’s sides. He shared that one of his favorite things is his summer breaks as he and his family spend time exploring new places enjoying the local cuisine, visiting the ocean, and playing board games all together. As the middle child, Taurus often takes on the role of caretaker for his younger siblings, a responsibility that has shaped his sense of responsibility and maturity.

As a Haitian Bahamian, Taurus cherishes the rich cultural tapestry woven into his life. From learning two languages to relishing the best of Haitian and Bahamian cuisines, Taurus embraces the diversity that comes with his heritage. His parents, each with unique experiences, contribute to a vibrant upbringing.

Reflecting on his childhood, Taurus acknowledges a phase of defiance and recklessness when he was younger. However, after one specific rule break, Taurus found himself with a head injury when he was out when he should not have been and ran into a car door. After that, he tried to follow the rules. As Taurus has matured, he listens to his mom and makes more thoughtful decisions.

Taurus’s weekdays are a blend of school, sports, and work at Abaco Grocery. Despite his busy schedule, he maintains a strong bond with a close-knit group of friends, formed over years of shared experiences. His job at Abaco Grocery helps him financially and provides a platform for him to save for his basketball gear and contribute toward his school fees.

When asked about role models, Taurus points to his older siblings and a friend, Barry, who played a significant role in introducing him to swimming and providing job opportunities. Academically, Taurus sometimes faces challenges, and his passion for basketball hasn’t been without hurdles, like a recent ankle injury. Despite this, he remains optimistic about his future, aspiring to pursue a career in basketball, possibly even professionally in the NBA.

Taurus’s journey is one of a passion for sports. As he navigates the challenges of adolescence, he holds onto his dreams and the lessons learned from his diverse cultural background. The ocean, the camaraderie with friends, and the joy of playing sports define his love for Abaco, making it a place he’s proud to call home.
