The Kairos team has been staying busy with morning runs, a full day at the Community Center, and evening worship.

A few of us started off the day going for a run and watching the sunrise. The sky was covered in pink hues and beautiful puffy clouds. The sunrises here have been unreal and a great reminder of God’s beauty in creation.
We spent the rest of the day working in Murphy Town at the Community Center. There were multiple projects to be completed including painting the exterior of the building, putting up drywall on the ceilings, and hanging hurricane straps. Everyone was able to try something new and leave their mark on this building.
During our lunch break, we had the opportunity to hear from Pastor Ryan Forbes. He shared his experience with Hurricane Dorian and the impact the storm had on this community’s faith. We were all touched by the strength and courage that the community of Abaco had in the midst of this storm. When asked about his faith journey and calling to be a pastor, he was overjoyed to share his testimony with us. A bunch of us were able to relate to his testimony and felt connected to what he was saying. He was extremely grateful for the work that we were doing in the community and he offered to pray over us and the rest of our trip before he left. We were all touched and moved by his words and how Spirit-led he is.
While working at the community center, we were able to connect with some of the local workers. They told us about their work, their experience, and how long they had been living in Abaco. A local vendor outside the community center was selling ice cream and lemonade, and we were able to chat with them. Everyone in this community is so welcoming and accepting, and these vendors exuded the same positivity.
We ended our evening with a bonfire and worship. It was so beautiful to connect with God’s creation and praise Him with our team at the same time. Even after worship was over, we all stayed around the fire and connected deeper with one another. It has been such a joyful experience to grow in faith and community with each other. We talked so long that the fire was almost out by the time we left. The girls were greeted back in their cabin with a cockroach…what a way to end the night!
