What a powerful first day! The Celebrate Church IMPACT team hit their first job site, painting and clearing hurricane debris at the Smith house. The homeowner’s gratitude deeply moved the team. That evening, they experienced G2 youth group, playing games, listening to a sermon, and praying. They ended the day with hearts full of gratitude, feeling a mindset shift and ready to continue being the hands and feet of Jesus.

Today we hit our first job site. We spent the day working at the Smith house where we painted the exterior of the house a beautiful shade of green. We also primed the interior walls of the house, and part of the group worked on removing years worth of hurricane damage and debris from the yard. One of the homeowners was sharing their story with us and made the comment that “nobody has been willing to come and help us without paying money. I didn’t even know there were people like you that would help.”

We were blessed because she is praying for our families back home because she is so grateful that we are here. It was a warm one here today, but everyone rallied together without complaint to get the job done! The entire exterior of the house has one coat of paint, and half the walls have the second coat done. The interior got primed, and painting inside will be a primary focus tomorrow. We also removed a roll off dumpster full of yard waste and trash!

This evening was very rewarding for our team. We had the opportunity to experience G2 youth group at Kirk of the Pines. We were able to play games with the teens, listen to their sermon, join in small groups, and pray over the facility and all who will use it for the kingdom. After youth group, the pastor’s family catered in a local delicacy for us to try: Sous and Johny Cakes. Fun fact: Sous is a soup you can “eat with your hands” and Johny cakes are the bomb.

We are ending this day with hearts full of gratitude. Our impact discussion tonight revealed that even after just one night here we all have felt a shift in our mindset. God has big things in store for us this week, and we look forward to continuing to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
