Culture Day!

The Des Moines Christian School IMPACT team explored the beauty of Abaco today! From a 400-foot blue hole to the stunning Winding Bay, they experienced God’s creation and grew as a community. Hear more from Megan, Hannah, and Kaylee about their adventures at Pete’s Pub and spotting stingrays in the clear blue ocean.

Today the Impact group went to three different locations to experience the beauty of God and the Bahamian culture! We went to the blue hole, Pete’s Pub, and Winding Bay. At all of these places we were able to see God’s amazing creation while growing as a community.

The first place we visited, the blue hole, was surrounded by trees and rocks. There we were able to spend time together on floaties and jumping in from the rim of the hole. The hole was 400 feet deep! Although it was very buggy we still had a great time and made lots of memories!

After sunrise we all ate an amazing breakfast of eggs and sausage prepared by none other than the loveliest Ms. Lula and Ms. Doreen. Later on after breakfast we had the opportunity to go to the local farmer’s market. Many of us enjoyed freshly baked goods, coffee, and bracelets.

The second place we visited was Pete’s Pub! This restaurant was a huge tourist attraction on the island and we got to see lots of people who were visiting the island for vacation. The restaurant was a drive up restaurant so many boats were docked and stopped by for fun! We were able to share a meal together at the restaurant. The group favorites were the American Burger and the Blacken Mahi Gyros! The restaurant was also famous for its delicious pies which many of us got to try!

The last place we visited was Winding Bay! This was easily the most beautiful beach we have seen so far! The sand was gorgeous, and the ocean was extremely clear and blue! Caleb found a beautiful conch shell and took it back to the cabins! The group also spotted three stingrays!

Overall, the day was great, and we really enjoyed growing as a community in Christ and seeing the most beautiful parts of the island! We are all enjoying our time together and as the end is nearing, we are trying to squeeze every last ounce out worth of opportunities to impact the community of Abaco and each other!

Love,
Megan, Hannah, Kaylee

This profile represents the collective voice of our Many Hands Impact teams. The reflections shared here are written by everyday individuals, from students and parents to local community members, who have traveled to Haiti and Abaco to experience the mission firsthand. They are not full-time staff. They are volunteers stepping out in faith to be love in action. In these posts, you will read raw, unpolished stories of personal transformation. Our guest writers document the shared humanity discovered while working alongside local leaders on safe structures, education initiatives, and community development. Impact trips are designed to change the participant as much as the community they serve. Through their words, you get a front row seat to the exact moments people discover their purpose and learn to live with intention.
