The Des Moines Christian School IMPACT team shares their experiences from another day of serving in Abaco, including a sunrise shark sighting, local farmer’s market visits, and completing more service projects like painting a house and caulking siding for families in need. Today was an amazing day that started for some of us at the rock over the water at sunrise. A bit of a startling start to our day was the sight of a shark. Those who got up for sunrise were able to get a clear view of one of God’s most beautiful creatures. Luckily, we later found out that it was just a simple nurse shark which is completely harmless to humans.

After sunrise we all ate an amazing breakfast of eggs and sausage prepared by none other than the loveliest Ms. Lula and Ms. Doreen. Later on after breakfast we had the opportunity to go to the local farmer’s market. Many of us enjoyed freshly baked goods, coffee, and bracelets.

The service piece of our day included an opportunity to return to Tamera’s house to finish the painting project.

After breaking for lunch, we divided up teams, with one group finishing the painting, and another group working a separate house to caulk siding for a family in need with disabled relatives living with them. Kaylee, while helping caulk the house, spotted a member of the Bahamian Many Hands team who had spoken at a DMC chapel a year and a half ago, which inspired her to go on this trip.

While we reflected on the day after supper, we had a chance to connect with each other as we shared stories of our time in Abaco so far. It was good to reflect on our time together and the friends we’ve made.
