1 Story of Impact
A few weeks ago, I was traveling in Charlotte with one of our staff members and he asked, “Do you want to go to the Billy Graham Library?” Given my love for history and learning about leaders, I said, “Yes, I’ve always wanted to go.” To be transparent, I didn’t really know much about Billy Graham, besides he had crusades, and growing up, he was occasionally on T.V. I also knew he was well respected, even after death, and his legacy hasn’t tarnished like a lot of prominent leaders. Walking through the library, which really isn’t a library, I was struck by the overwhelming idea of crusade with the singular vision for people to say yes to Christ. And for Billy, this continues, even after his death, something I still am trying to wrap my head around. Looking at the historic pictures and watching some of his sermons, I stood in awe at the sheer number of people who came to listen to him speak about God. The number I last heard was 215,000,000 people listened to him speak. Billy used every bit of his life to win people towards Jesus Christ. The combination of purpose + passion + skill + time = greatness. Take any of those four elements out of the equation and greatness doesn’t happen. Still, the one that struck me most was time. The sheer length of time Billy pursued his purpose, even from beyond the grave, is something to strive for. In our days of microwaved meals, 15 minutes of fame, and instant gratification, those who remain faithful to their purpose stand out. For those of you who might be contemplating letting go of your purpose, stop and reflect before moving on. Is it really time? For those staying true, may Billy’s life encourage you in your journey. Stay on your crusade and continue to pursue greatness. It is worth it.
