From inspiring students at CAPS to hands-on debris cleanup and farm work, see how the Newton Church of The Way IMPACT Team connected with the Abaco community. Read about a day of service, passion, and community spirit!
It was a bright and early start to this Impact trip, where we met some blessed children at CAPS (Central Abaco Primary School). We were able to feed them breakfast, tour the school with some of the kids, and were even lucky enough to have some precious conversations to learn more about their academic environment.
The behavior of these children was truly so inspiring to all of the members of our Impact team. The kids were so respectful, positive, and just happy to be where they were.
After having the opportunity to tour the school, we visited a local pastor’s farm and heard about the adversity he has faced in the past. After seeing how torn apart his belongings were and hearing bits and pieces of his story, many of us were able to see and feel the passion he had for his farm and his willingness to open the farm for the community to experience!
Half of the team cleaned brush and sharpened the farm, and the other half visited another local named Bianca, where we picked up construction and storm debris. Seeing the amount of debris still there after all of this time was overwhelming, making it hard to picture the feeling of what she has been through ever since Hurricane Dorian.
Our willingness to help was incredibly strong, and we were so grateful to have the opportunity to help some of the people who really needed it. After finishing up at Bianca’s, we cheered on students at a high school track meet, where the community was so supportive and present.
