Well I’m back! I’m going to keep it shorter tonight. Today was our cultural experience day. We started off with a ferry trip over to Hopetown—the same trip many workers from the island make everyday and night.
Our group decided that we would stop and see the lighthouse. It is one of the only remaining, full functioning, kerosene lighthouses in the world. It was a very neat building to climb up the 101 stairs and look out over all of Elbow Cay and the water from the lookout deck. We ate lunch at a local resort restaurant in Hopetown, and it was a shocking reality to see how the other side lives after having experienced the locals and the wreckage the past few days.
Towards the start of the afternoon we made our way into the quaint, old English styled town. The shops and beautiful beaches gave a little something for everyone. After our day of low key exposure to Hopetown we made our way back to Great Abaco and attended the annual G2 Christmas party. (G2 being the youth group run by the Hendrickson family.)
We spent the evening frosting cookies, making bracelets, playing games outdoors and concluded our time with the youth by a very fun, very loud game of relay races.
Many Hands and the Hendrickson family have continued to support each other throughout their journeys here in Abaco, and it has been beautiful and very successful. We capped our day off with some amazing chicken curry and we’re ready to finish our time here tomorrow with some more work.
