Catch up with Emily and Samantha, Skutt (Omaha, NE) IMPACT team members, as they share their day assisting with home reconstruction and running the ‘Rise Up’ volleyball camp in Abaco, filled with new relationships and meaningful impact.

This morning each girl in the cabin woke up before the sunrise to swim and paddleboard in the ocean together. The shared sunrise was a beautiful symbol of God’s wonderful creation.

Today’s agenda was the same as yesterday’s; we worked on home reconstruction in the morning and the volleyball camp in the afternoon. Tamara is the name of the lady whose house we (Emily and Samantha) worked on today and yesterday. After sanding the walls yesterday, we primed today. With the sheetrock covered up by the end of our morning, the house started to feel more like a home. What really touched us was the fact that Tamara and her two kids have been living in the unfinished home for five months… even during construction, and have been without a home since Hurricane Dorian (2019!). This was hard for us to see because we take for granted what we have back in the United States.

After our morning spent at the houses, we went to our second day of ‘Rise Up’ volleyball camp. At the camp, we focused on attacking and approaches, along with games. Everyday at camp, we have small groups where each coach is put with a few girls from Abaco. During this time, we have learned more about the Bahamians’ personal lives and stories… we have also shared about our lives. This has allowed us to connect with them on a deeper level. Everybody on our team has been touched by talking with the girls. Emily even received a gift from a girl named Dee!

Overall, this day was very impactful and makes us feel extremely grateful for the opportunity to be here and serve others. Thanks for reading our blog!

Catch ya on the next wave,

Emily and Samantha 🙂
