The Newton Church of the Way Impact Team share their experiences from day three in Abaco. The team had another fulfilling work day, continuing the much-needed restoration work at the Marsh Harbour Community Center.
We started our morning with Matt leading the devotion about a servant’s heart. It was an appropriate devotion for the morning, and he did a great job.
Today was a full work day. Matty G and CJ stayed back and helped power wash 2×6 and 2×4 lumber that had been donated a couple of years ago. They separated the bad wood from the good wood so that it could be used in projects around camp. They got more than expected done, which was a blessing. They then joined the rest of the team at the Marsh Harbour community center.
At the community center, we did another coat of primer on the ceiling, and then two finish coats. We also painted another coat of the darker peach in the main room. All the doors, trim, and crown molding were also primed and finished painting today. Some of the men were hanging drywall in the back rooms but ended up having to do a little extra work spacing the rafters correctly in order to hang the drywall. So they got about 60% of the ceiling drywall hung. We were also able to get the first coat of light peach in one of the smaller back rooms.
We had some special visitors stop by today with a special treat for our team. We were blessed by a local couple, David and Bernadette. They brought us pineapple and coconut tarts. They are a Bahamian specialty. They were very good! They had joined us for food distribution on Sunday along with their daughter, Anya. We enjoyed visiting with all of them and hearing their perspectives on Hurricane Dorian. They are so grateful for organizations like Many Hands pouring into their communities.
Overall, today was a great team-building experience. Everyone worked very hard and as a team. Some members were offered to go back to camp as the workload was winding down, but they elected to stay with the rest and help finish everything up. It was a perfect sign of what a servant’s heart looks like.
God was evident throughout our day as we served at the school and painted at the community center. There were many impactful conversations we had with each other and those living on the island. These conversations were later shared during our impact fellowship time as we reflected on our day. We shared our moments of joy.
