Today God blessed us with a beautiful sunrise, calm water, and a chance to dip our feet in the Caribbean sea. It is such a blessing to be on an island that is so beautiful, serene, and peaceful. That is in such stark contrast to the stories that we hear about Hurricane Dorian and the devastation the people of Abaco had to endure.
Today we had a chance to visit a hydroponics farm owned by Glen & Tracy Kelly. It was amazing to see what they can do on 26 acres of farm ground. They are growing banana trees, guava trees, coconut trees, and also growing a plethora of small vegetables like: cauliflower, lettuce, green beans, broccoli, eggplant, and more. We had the opportunity to build the first Shade House in Abaco on their property. This Shade House will also be used for hydroponics and a future Shade House is scheduled to grow inverted produce (roots grow into the soil). I was amazed at how much work that Glen and Tracy do with just 1 hired man (Duran) and the help of their high school Senior son, Daniel.
I have been reminding the team and myself that our time here is a marathon and not a sprint. There is so much work to be done – spiritually, physically, and emotionally. We continually remind each other that we have a BIG God and the work we are doing is for His glory. We have the opportunity to not only be a blessing to the people of Abaco, but that the people of Abaco are a blessing to us.
We are looking forward to Sunday where we can enjoy a day of Sabbath and reflect on the goodness of God. Two days ago, we had the chance to revamp a Children’s Ministry room at New Vision Ministries, which has sat idle since the 2019 Hurricane Dorian. We will have the honor of leading children’s ministry in this very room.
We thank God for the time we have had thus far and are anticipating our last few days on the beautiful island of Abaco.
