Powerful Statements

3  Points to Ponder

  1. “Without a rudder, we are tossed wherever the wind blows and the water flows. Without a grounding mission statement, life can be much the same way, leading you to places you didn’t want to go. Do you have a grounding mission statement for your life?”
  2. “Everyone had a dream for their life at some point, but for many, it has been buried under circumstances. Some are created by your actions and some by culture. What was the first dream you had for your life before life told you differently? Is there any truth in that first dream?”
  3. “Putting visions in your head to written statements is a powerful step. The concreteness of writing gives weight to a vision, either making it more or less real. If you can’t write or articulate it, it isn’t going to last. What do you need to get on paper or spend some time learning to articulate today?”

“Personal vision is often the catalyst for wise decisions.” – Andy Stanley

1 Story of Impact

Over the past months, we’ve been piloting a new leadership development program, contextualizing the Lead Like Jesus curriculum into the Haitian context. Our first pilot cohort were our teachers and administrators in our School of Light, who recently wrapped up Level 1 training. At the end of this training, every participant put together a personal mission, vision, and values statement, then each grade level created an action plan for the 2022-2023 school year. Reading through these vision statements from our Haitian teachers, they are powerful! Here are a few samples.

“I vision a world where everyone knows the greatness of God, one is motivating and encouraging others to develop a creative spirit, skills, and the talents that God gives.”

“My mission is to teach others so they can become a great leader, even greater than myself. To teach the kids so they can surpass me.”

“My mission is to teach the kids in love, with patience, in the world of God with instruction to help MH4H grow its vision which is useful for our country.”

“My vision is to teach the kids the word of God, teach them so the nation can be changed, so we will have a new Haiti. My perfect world is to lead others on a good path.”

These are beautiful declarations of dreams Haitians have for themselves, their community, and their country. What is your personal vision? What is your personal mission? Do you know? Are you being intentional about living your unique gifts for the betterment of yourself, your family, and your community? Take some time this week to assess your mission, vision, and dreams. Is your current trajectory moving toward or away from this statement? Once assessed, adjust the sails accordingly.
