1 Story of Impact
This past week, I had the privilege to co-facilitate one of our Encounter IMPACT weekends, where we dig deep into our unique story and purpose to be positive change in our world. My good friend Matt Moekl shared a critical moment in his story, forever shifting his paradigm. He was volunteering at Wildwood Hills Ranch, and there was one little boy who was dropped off by his mom. A few days later, the mail came for campers, and Matt was handed a letter from the parent to deliver to the little boy, as is pretty typical of many parents who send their kids to camp. But this letter was different, as the mom was writing her son to tell him he didn’t fit into her plan and she was leaving. She dropped him off on Monday and child services would be picking him up on Friday. Matt grew up in a home where both parents love their children and would do anything for them. That was his worldview. Yet, here he was holding this letter to deliver to this child. What do you do when what you believed in changes and your paradigm needs to shift? To Matt’s credit, he wrestled with the hard things, asked more questions, and learned more about the epidemic of unloved children in our country. Now, he doesn’t volunteer at The Ranch, but became their Executive Director. When the real-world situations don’t fit into the nice, tiny box you created, what do you do? Is there a paradigm shift you need to embrace to live a life with God’s global heart? Where are you limiting your impact because of your small thinking?
