1 Story of Impact
One year ago today I put pen to paper (ok, I put my fingers on the computer buttons) and started writing 3…2…1…IMPACT. During this time, I did not miss a week of writing, even with walking my father home through his last months of cancer, traveling outside the country four times, and preaching eight times outside of my normal job. And that doesn’t say anything about being a husband or dad to a 14- and 11-year-old. Looking back on this past year, two critical points stood out to me. First, teachable moments are happening all the time if we pay attention. It is easy to spot the big ones, the Will Smith-sized slaps across your face when life wakes you up. But, the little ones have more impact over time, especially if we recognize the power they have to shape us over a lifetime. It truly is the trajectory of our lives we should care about the most and that shows up in the little moments. Second, showing up everyday matters. How did I write a blog every week for the past year? I wrote every week. I know this sounds obvious and super simple as it really is obvious and simple. Yet, it is so easily looked over and abused as life happens to us all. You all have similar stories: life happens to all of us. But for those commitments we feel are important, showing up each time is the hardest step, not the actual work. Thank you for being on this journey with me as we all transform together, to be love in action, in our broken world.
