Emma Konrad is a senior in high school and is joining Emily Van Gent and the group of interns from Northwestern College. She will also help with tasks in different departments at the Many Hands for Haiti campus. After high school, Emma plans to be a private music instructor. Emma wrote below about her experience at a church in Pignon.

“My heart is steadfast, O God! I will sing and make melody with all my being!” Psalm 108:1
On Sunday, our team visited a church in Pignon with Craig and Christi. The place these people met was made out of sticks and had a tin roof. As we took our place on the benches and the service began, it was clear that the men and women of the church knew who they were worshiping.
I couldn’t understand a word of the songs that were being sung in French and Creole, but I understood who they were singing to. Their singing was full of adoration and desperation for the presence of Jesus. The people were open and vulnerable in their worship. They were worshiping Jesus Christ with a passion I had never seen before.
These Christians knew who they were worshiping. They worshipped with what they had. Two men brought instruments they had made themselves. One gave a bass sound and the other was something like a saxophone. Others in the congregation sang, making beautiful harmonies and singing with all that they had.
After seeing the beauty of full surrender in worship through music in the Haitians of that church, I pray that it changes the way that I worship. I want to worship in a new way that shows how much I need the Lord and His mercy in my own life. I want to worship with vulnerability just like these people.
“He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:3
