My Tribe

3  Points to Ponder

  1. We were built for community, yet it is easy to lose sight of this in our distracting world. How have you been investing in the people that matter most to you over this past season?
  2. Find the people that feed your soul — people that lift you up and remind you of who you are. Do life with those people. Have you celebrated life with them lately?
  3. If you don’t think you have your people, figure out the type of person you like to surround yourself with and be intentional about connecting with those people. Invest in them first, as more than likely, it will return to you in spades. Who is one person you’d want in your tribe?

2 Quotes to Share

“A tribe is a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea. For millions of years, human beings have been part of one tribe or another. A group only needs two things to be a tribe: a shared interest and a way to communicate.” – Seth Godin

“Surround yourself with people who add value to your life. Who challenge you to be greater than you were yesterday. Who sprinkle magic into your existence, just like you do in theirs. Life isn’t meant to be done alone. Find your tribe, and journey freely and loyally together.” – Alex Elle

1 Story of Impact

Over the Labor Day weekend, my extended family celebrated a massive win for one of our younger members, Summer. In October 2022, I shared her journey with cancer, ringing the bell with an all-clear. Unfortunately, just after Christmas, a test confirmed the cancer was back and then, she needed to dig deep and go through a stem cell transplant, followed by a year of maintenance chemo. She’d delay a year of college and fight this with all her strength. Walking through the valley of the shadow of death, she came out the other side cancer-free, with another ringing of the bell in May. As a family, we’ve been leery of an early celebration, but she continues to get stronger and is enrolled back in college this fall. So, on Sunday, we gathered as an extended family, all 37 of us, to celebrate the miracle of life and a cancer-free diagnosis. The support she and her family received from friends, family, neighbors, teammates and the community at large helped to carry them when it was dark and uncertain. They had a tribe of people to support them through the brokenness. Never take for granted the power of your tribe. Take a quick inventory today. Who is your tribe? If the worst days showed up at your doorstep tomorrow, who would show up for you? Do they know how much they mean to you? If not, why not? And vice-versa, have you invested the time into them, helping them through their difficult times? Tribes are two-way streets and there lies the power. It is reciprocal. It is okay to be a taker in the relationship for a season but at some point, you have to become a giver as well. To be long-term people of impact, invest in your tribe, your people.

As the Founder and CEO of Many Hands, Tim Brand leads a global movement dedicated to the belief that transformation happens when people choose to be Love in Action in a broken world. Over the last decade, he has transitioned Many Hands from a grassroots start-up into a high-impact international non-profit with a $9.0 million annual operating budget. Tim focuses on building the relational and physical infrastructure required for communities to shift from dependency to dignity. Today, these programs touch over 25,000 lives annually. Tim centers his daily work on professionalizing this passion by ensuring radical financial integrity, developing resilient five-year strategic plans, and fostering the exact partnerships necessary to solve complex problems in volatile environments. Under his guidance in 2026, the organization is actively pursuing the audacious goal of delivering over 5 million meals to communities facing catastrophic hunger. Known as a giver and a doer, Tim believes that God uses imperfect people and strategic discipline to bring shalom to chaos. Whether he is leading an Impact trip on the ground, overseeing a multi-million dollar construction project, or developing the Board of Directors, his ultimate mission remains unchanged: to restore what is broken and prove that no place and no person is a lost cause.
