There were two incidents that helped our team stay cool in Haiti. The first was when we went to the market in Pignon on Thursday. As we were buying supplies, there they WERE!!! WATERMELON!!! Finally something I recognized amidst all the sights, sounds, and smells of the market. We had been walking the market for awhile on a very hot day when I spied the melons. When I saw them, I was immediately transported back to the farm in Iowa I grew up on, and there, we would have melons cooled down straight from the well pit. I asked Christi if we could buy one, and we ended up with two. We ate them today, and they helped cool us off. We learned melons are melons the whole world round, and people are people, Pignon and Pella, Haiti and the U.S.A.
