3  Points to Ponder

  1. “We are called human beings, but we should be called human feelings. To feel is to be alive. Do a quick heart check today. Are your feelings lifting you up or dragging you down right now?”
  2. “The inner peace of small delights is the sweet nectar allowing a flower to bloom. When is the last time you were truly delighted in something small, but powerful?”
  3. “Delight comes from a heart overflowing with love. Generosity to embrace joy is a natural byproduct. What is one relationship you delight in right now? Does that person know how you feel?”

1 Story of Impact

In 2017, we took a board retreat to Pignon, Haiti, the main area of our growing community strategy. One of our board members, Tim Van Maanen, has served in the area since 2010, once spending a couple months in the area to oversee a large construction project. On this particular day, we were riding in the back of a pickup truck, heading to some of our partner schools and Tim saw one of his Haitian friends, Bygone. Now, when I see a friend, I typically give a smile and wave and move on. Abruptly halting about 40 yards from Bygone, Tim jumps out of the truck and starts sprinting towards Bygone. Bygone sees this and returns the action, running towards Tim. Meeting somewhere in the middle, they affectionately embrace one another, with smiles, laughter, and a few tears shed. It is a picture seared into my head of truly delighting in one another. When is the last time you delighted in someone, where the person had no doubt how overjoyed you were to have them in your life? The people you love might forget the words you say, but they will never forget the way you made them feel. Go the extra step this week and delight in your love. See how it makes both of you feel. A little delight goes a long way.

As the Founder and CEO of Many Hands, Tim Brand leads a global movement dedicated to the belief that transformation happens when people choose to be Love in Action in a broken world. Over the last decade, he has transitioned Many Hands from a grassroots start-up into a high-impact international non-profit with a $9.0 million annual operating budget. Operating across Haiti and The Bahamas, his strategy moves beyond traditional relief. Tim focuses on building the relational and physical infrastructure required for communities to shift from dependency to dignity. Today, these programs touch over 25,000 lives annually. Tim centers his daily work on professionalizing this passion by ensuring radical financial integrity, developing resilient five-year strategic plans, and fostering the exact partnerships necessary to solve complex problems in volatile environments. Under his guidance in 2026, the organization is actively pursuing the audacious goal of delivering over 5 million meals to communities facing catastrophic hunger. Known as a giver and a doer, Tim believes that God uses imperfect people and strategic discipline to bring shalom to chaos. Whether he is leading an Impact trip on the ground, overseeing a multi-million dollar construction project, or developing the Board of Directors, his ultimate mission remains unchanged: to restore what is broken and prove that no place and no person is a lost cause.
