Reflecting on an unforgettable Impact trip exploring God’s creation in a different part of the world, Treycen shares how his initial worries about his team were completely shattered by their deep faith and sacrificial love. From a profound 2 AM heart-to-heart on a bathroom floor to witnessing everyday acts of grace, this journey redefined what love in action truly means. Read how experiencing a community completely devoted to God can change your perspective.

Each expectation I had for this trip led to a different revelation, but there was one expectation broken that impacted me more than the rest. My team was ridiculously amazing. I came into this trip worried about my team. Maybe they were too old to connect with. What if some of them were rude or inconsiderate? What if they came on this mission trip, but they didn’t have a good work ethic? What if I had to spend my trip listening to people complaining the entire time?

These thoughts were arrogant and self-centered. I was expecting the worst out of God’s children. But they blew me away. Each person on my team had a heart for the Lord that I can look up to. Each loved more sacrificially than I could ever hope. And each one of them prayed with the faith that I aspire to have.

My impact moment actually started at 2 am. I was with one of my closest friends, sitting on the bathroom floor, having a heart-to-heart. We talked about all types of things that night. Tears were shed, and our hearts were bleeding for God. And when we were finally out of words to express how we were feeling, my friend prayed. He prayed with his whole heart, mind, and strength. When he prayed, I felt the presence of more than just us in that room. I felt the presence of Jesus taking hold of our chains and unlocking them. I felt the Father giving us a new life. I felt the faith of my friend moving mountains.

He wasn’t the only person in my group who showed that level of faith. Every day of this trip, I got to see the image of our Lord Jesus shown in each one of these people. I am in awe. The big question for this trip is “What does love in action mean to you?” For me, love in action means to love the way Jesus loved. Each member of my team showed me what that looks like. When I go home, I will be praying for my brothers and sisters of this world every day, in hopes that I can one day have that level of faith and show that level of love.

This profile represents the collective voice of our Many Hands Impact teams. The reflections shared here are written by everyday individuals, from students and parents to local community members, who have traveled to Haiti and Abaco to experience the mission firsthand. They are not full-time staff. They are volunteers stepping out in faith to be love in action. In these posts, you will read raw, unpolished stories of personal transformation. Our guest writers document the shared humanity discovered while working alongside local leaders on safe structures, education initiatives, and community development. Impact trips are designed to change the participant as much as the community they serve. Through their words, you get a front row seat to the exact moments people discover their purpose and learn to live with intention.
