From painting on ladders to fast deck construction, read about how the Haven Christian Reformed Church IMPACT Team saw a day of great progress and teamwork, and heard an unforgettable testimony of survival and faith.
The day began with a beautiful sunrise and some warm 70 degree weather.
The day started with groups of workers spread out on four different jobs. A large team finished the tall task of painting the exterior of Hank’s house. A challenge that the team faced at Hank’s was the number of people who needed ladders to paint and difficulties with the height of the house, but with great teamwork, everyone focused on the task at hand, and the job moved along smoothly. Hank was absolutely thrilled with the job that was done in such a short amount of time.
A small crew began on Tracy’s house to start the process of building a deck on the front of the house. Early in the process, there was a hiccup with the chainsaw, causing a small delay in the progress, but in no time, they were back on the run.
By mid-afternoon, the deck boards started to get installed, and a swarm of team members arrived from other projects to help. Within 90 minutes, approximately 250 square feet of decking was installed by Many Hands. While all that was going on, siding began to be installed, the majority of plumbing was completed, and drywall was put up on one side of the duplex.
A crew of three finished framing the unfinished side of Tamara’s duplex. As that was getting finished up, the electrician crew was ready to start putting in boxes and pulling wires. Tamara was very excited to see the progress that was made over the past few days, and she was looking forward to moving into that side so she could begin renting the other side for income.
During dinner time, Pastor Knowles came and spoke about his experience surviving Hurricane Dorian and how he lost every earthly possession he owned. He shared his heroic story about how he stayed on the island for 15 days after the hurricane, helping find survivors and move them to safety. His testimony was very moving and encouraging to see how God never left his side.
