1 Story of Impact
Eric Recker has been a great friend for many years now, and he is an accomplished dentist, tri-athlete, author, and beard grower. His story is powerful, and if you haven’t picked up a copy of #WinTheNow, go get yourself one. As a self-proclaimed achievement junkie, Eric has accomplished many amazing feats. One of those is the Leadville 100 mountain bike race. This race isn’t just for anyone. It is 104 miles starting at 10,200 ft elevation and reaches the highest elevation at 12,500 feet at the Columbine mine. Entry is controlled and restricted. In preparation for this race, Eric felt a nudging from God. Why do you need this? Eric felt strongly that the Lord was saying to him, “I will let you accomplish this feat, but when you cross the finish line, it will mean nothing.” And that is exactly what happened for Eric. At what should have been an amazing celebration for this great accomplishment, he just felt empty. He then made a sticking statement, “If you don’t know why you are climbing the mountain, you aren’t going to find it at the top.” Do you know your why? So many of us go through life thinking the answers must be at the top of some mountain we are trying to climb, only to find unfilling silence at the top. It is so much more important to understand why you are climbing the mountain than the actual hike up. What are your expectations? How is this shaping you? Who is this for? Why does it matter? If you haven’t done so lately, get truthful with yourself around your why. Your long-term impact hangs in the balance.
