Many Hands for Haiti is holding its annual Hotcakes for Haiti pancake breakfast on Sunday, Feb. 23 from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Third Reformed church in Pella. The proceeds from the free-will donation will go towards rebuilding a Cholera clinic and pouring cement floors in children’s homes to help prevent diseases.
The pictures above show the current state of the Cholera clinic in Haiti. Cholera is “a serious disease that causes severe vomiting and diarrhea and that often results in death” (Merriam-Webster.com). In the current clinic, patients get rained on in bad weather, which is counterproductive when they are trying to seek treatment.
Additional proceeds will go to fund pouring cement floors in homes of families from Thrive for 5. Many Hands for Haiti’s found that many kids get sick from sleeping on the dirt floors in their homes. Bacteria resides in the ground for months and spreads diseases to the entire family. By installing a cement floor, the sicknesses occurring in these children can be dramatically decreased. Below, you can see pictures from installing a cement floor in Haiti. All of the work is done by hand, from mixing the concrete to passing it by buckets into the home to the pouring and smoothing. It’s quite the process, and we’re happy that our American teams serving in Haiti are able to join in the process! If you are unable to attend Hotcakes for Haiti, but still want to support the Cholera clinic on the cement floors, you can send a donation to Many Hands for Haiti, PO Box 204, Pella, IA 50219 or make a donation online by clicking here.
