Hey Everyone,
When you step up to do something that matters, fear is usually waiting. It tells you to stay quiet, play it safe, and leave the work to someone else. For a long time, I assumed the leaders I admired had figured out how to silence that voice.
I was wrong. Courage isn’t the absence of doubt. It is deciding the work in front of you is more important than the fear inside you. It is choosing to take the next step anyway.
Here is our 3…2…1 Impact: three points to ponder, two quotes to share, and one story of impact.
1 Story of Impact
On Friday morning, October 2, I prepared to take the stage for the 8th annual Impact Summit. As the keynote speaker, this was my first public opportunity to discuss my new book, releasing in January 2027.
If you don’t speak publicly for a living, my reality might surprise you. Without fail, before I speak, fear invades my thoughts. Every single time. Doubt whispers, “Who cares what you have to say?” and “Who do you think you are to share anything?” Then it escalates: “Why do you do this to yourself? All your stories are tired, and you shouldn’t use them.”
With faith, I confront the fears and take one step forward. I remember my why and ground myself in truth. I find quiet time to listen to music, clear my head, and wait for the still, small voice. Peace returns, accompanied by the excitement to share a message designed to help someone else.
After the talk and through the weekend, peers standing shoulder to shoulder with me sent messages. They provided beautiful reminders that I am not alone. One message highlighted newfound perspective in a difficult situation. Another detailed a breakthrough experienced after reading an archetype from the Builder’s Assessment. A third expressed the joy of occupying a room filled with people doing great things around the world.
Fear has a voice, but it does not get a vote in my future. It must not get a vote in yours. We were never meant to navigate a broken world alone. We need each other and our unique gifts. If you want to better understand your unique place as a Kingdom Builder, I am offering the Builder’s Assessment from the book for free. This five-minute tool clarifies your place on the line.
Take it. Digest it. Pick up your trowel and join the other builders to construct something lasting.
3 Points to Ponder
- Fear is a persistent passenger on the journey of leadership, but it must never drive. We must choose to ground ourselves in truth when doubt creeps in. Assess the fears currently shouting in your mind, and determine how you will quiet them to hear the still, small voice.
- We were never meant to navigate this life alone. Building strong relational infrastructure requires letting others stand shoulder to shoulder with us, especially when we feel inadequate. Examine your relationships to identify who holds the explicit permission to speak courage into your moments of deepest hesitation.
- Every person possesses a specific role to play. When you withhold your God-given talents, the entire community misses your contribution. Confront the area of your life where you are currently playing small. Define the exact next step required to pick up your trowel and build.
2 Quotes to Share
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” – Nelson Mandela
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
We were never meant to carry our calling in isolation. When you pick up your tools and step into the trenches, you empower the person next to you to do the same. Thank you for showing up and letting us build alongside you. There is plenty of work to do, but we are in this together.
