3...2...1 Impact

Praise in the Pit

Hey Everyone,

We all face seasons where the weight of the world seems to press in from every side. Disappointments mount, and we find ourselves questioning the path ahead. But it is in these very moments of friction that our character is forged. Today, I want to share a personal reflection on navigating unmet expectations and finding purpose in the pain. This beautifully embodies our 3…2…1 Impact framework: three points to ponder, two quotes to share, and one story of profound impact.

1 Story of Impact

This past week, I faced a barrage of disappointments. They struck from all angles: personal, professional, financial, and spiritual. The older I get, the more I realize reality rarely meets our expectations.

So I have wrestled with some tough questions. Do I lower my expectations to meet reality? Do I stop stretching myself to avoid the pain? Do I limit relationships so I do not get let down?

Sunday morning, as a close friend taught through Psalm 40, the message struck a nerve. Ancient texts carry weight. These writings outlast artificial intelligence and modern algorithms. They offer tested endurance. Through them, two distinct truths anchor my spirit.

First, this life is not about me. It never was. When I center the narrative on myself, I dig my own pit. But the Gospel guarantees God pulls me out of the mud and sets my feet on solid rock.

Second, the antidote to disappointment is praise. We are called to find the good in all situations and in all people. We must see the bigger picture of the miracle that we exist in the first place. He puts a new song in my mouth, making all things new. I trust the story, regardless of the momentary outcome, because He is always at work.

In this life, we face trouble. Disappointment, fear, anxiety, betrayal, and hurt strike hard. Those feelings carry weight, but they do not dictate the soundtrack of our lives. We find freedom, regardless of circumstances, by choosing our response. When the question, “What is God doing?” hits my mind, I reframe it: “Who is God shaping me to be in the moment?”

Then, I hunt for the good and praise it.

3  Points to Ponder

  1. Unmet expectations tempt us to shrink back and protect ourselves from future pain. Lowering expectations limits our capacity to demonstrate Love in Action. Evaluate your current trajectory. Where are you retreating to avoid the sting of disappointment?
  2. Praise shifts our perspective from current struggles to eternal hope. It requires a deliberate choice to trust the story God writes. Confront your default reaction to setbacks. How will you replace that reaction with a spirit of praise today?
  3. Our challenges serve as tools for building our character. We do not ask why an event happens. We ask what it produces inside of us. Assess your current frustrations. How does asking, “Who is God shaping me to be right now?” alter your view?

2 Quotes to Share

“He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.” – Psalm 40:2

“A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.” – Seneca

The paramount reward of our impact journey is discovering God uses our disappointments to build our relational infrastructure. Let Him shape you in your current circumstances. Let a peace that surpasses understanding dictate your next move. Offer praise from the pit, then step out and build.

Live with Impact,
