From worry to deep satisfaction! Read how the Crossroads Church (Norwalk) IMPACT team in Abaco turned first-day jitters into collective joy, finding strength in God, community, and the spirit of a job well done. Discover the power of teamwork and faith in unexpected places.

Reflecting on yesterday and lessons learned from those we visited made us wonder how we could be blessed in the same or even more significant way on our first work day. What will we do? Will we be able to do it? Will we meet expectations? Remember yesterday? Concentrate on God, let Him lead and all those other problems become small. God is a God of Hope.

We were broken into three groups: One group was painting the interior of the large youth addition at Kirk (church) of the Pines, another group was installing kitchen cabinets, hanging doors and molding and the final group was preparing walls for drywall and working on a new well. All were at different locations.

At the end of the day we reflected on what happened together. God showed up big! Regardless of assignment, who we worked with, or what we accomplished, it was amazing. Come on, I was working on the well and we were called the head scratchers. Someone thought we should all be wearing orange vests. In spite of the obstacles it was a blast to make new friends, grow deeper with old friends and know that we accomplished exactly what God wanted for that day.

Interestingly, as we shared and listened to what happened elsewhere, it was the same. Teamwork, being flexible, open minded with great comradery was the spirit of the day. Those things happen only when God’s Spirit is the guide. All the group felt extremely blessed by the relationships of the day. We most certainly did and had the satisfaction of a job well done too.

So let’s just say God is good. He meets us where we are, in all our fears, concerns and problems. As the Psalm 139: 8 says, “ If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” Abaco is a beautiful place and people that create an environment of finding God no matter where you currently might be in relation to Him. We are grateful to grow with both Abaco and to a larger extent with God together.

This profile represents the collective voice of our Many Hands Impact teams. The reflections shared here are written by everyday individuals, from students and parents to local community members, who have traveled to Haiti and Abaco to experience the mission firsthand. They are not full-time staff. They are volunteers stepping out in faith to be love in action. In these posts, you will read raw, unpolished stories of personal transformation. Our guest writers document the shared humanity discovered while working alongside local leaders on safe structures, education initiatives, and community development. Impact trips are designed to change the participant as much as the community they serve. Through their words, you get a front row seat to the exact moments people discover their purpose and learn to live with intention.
