Hear from Linda and Leesa about their first full day in Abaco, where they experienced the warmth of the Bahamian sunrise and the strength and joy of the local community. The InOnTime IMPACT team visited women in need, distributing food baskets and water, and offering prayers and encouragement. The sisters were deeply moved by the experience, and are excited to continue their work with Many Hands this week!
Two Sisters decided to go to Abaco to see what their brother, Dave Zwiep, and sister-in-law, Judy Zwiep, have been so passionate about. For a few years Dave and Judy Zwiep have been involved with Many Hands. So we hopped on a plane this past Saturday and had an easy early flight. We arrived on a cloudy, dreary, and cool day in the Abacos. Laura and Quinn– darling, confidant, and hospitable– greeted us at the airport. Laura gave us a tour of the property and history of Camp Abaco. The team noticed the coolness of the day at this time of year. It actually was very surprising.
On Sunday, the gorgeous sunrise took our breaths away. As the sun was rising, God saw fit to warm the earth and our hearts! Our spirits were lifted, and what a gift that was from God! We traveled to Kirk of The Pines, a local church in Abaco. Pastor Barrett’s choice of songs for the morning were so appropriate for this coming week as we ventured into the community. The songs he chose were “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”, “Arise My Soul”, and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. To top it off, Pastor Barrett preached about giving our all to Jesus. A perfect beginning to our time at Camp Abaco.
After our church service, the team distributed food baskets and water to women in need in the community. Ms. Wendy, partner of Many Hands, selected who we visited according to their needs. The team was moved by the strength, joy, and gratitude for life each woman possessed. We were able to pray for these people, sing with them, and hear their stories of hardship and joy. One woman told us we were the Love of Jesus. How touched we all were! She also asked us to pray that she would be ready for the Kingdom to come, again she said, “ it’s coming soon!”
Before we left, the two sisters stayed behind to put their hands on the needy women in order to give them the Priestly Blessing: The Lord Bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you; The Lord turn His face towards you and give you His peace. Numbers 6: 24-26.
After our first day we are starting to realize why Dave and Judy are passionate about Many Hands for Abaco, and cannot wait to learn more as the week continues!
